The Jacksonport Historical Society
The mission of the Jacksonport Historical Society is educational in nature through the study of the Township of Jacksonport, its history, people, land and buildings. The Society’s intent is to promote this education through historical programs, research, publications, commemorative activities, collection of tangible historical memorabilia and to establish a museum to house, exhibit and preserve this material for future generations.
The Jacksonport Historical Society invites you to become a Keeper of the Past. Your interest and skill in reasearch, coordinating programs, serving as a docent, or other activities will continue to preserve the history for future generations. Jacksonport United Methodist Church: Preserving a Jacksonport Landmark
The Jacksonport United Methodist Church, our “Little White Church by the Lake” at Highway 57 and Cave Point Drive, has been part of the Jacksonport community since 1892. Weekly services have been held there every Sunday, May through October, for more than 130 years.
Today, this beloved historic building needs significant foundation work. The church will be carefully lifted from its original stone foundation so that failing floor joists and support beams can be repaired, drainage issues addressed, and a new foundation installed. The church will then be returned to its foundation, preserving this special place for generations to come.
We’re sharing this information with Jacksonport residents, businesses, and seasonal visitors so the community understands the work that lies ahead and the importance of preserving this local landmark.
The church is raising funds for the project and pursuing grants and historic preservation funding as well. If you would like to help preserve the Little White Church by the Lake, contributions are welcome through the QR code below. Contributions can also be submitted to: Jacksonport Foundation Fund, 836 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. A tax receipt will be provided for making a donation.
